Focus and Scope

Review and Integrative Synthesis in Education (RISE) is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated exclusively to publishing high-quality literature reviews, systematic literature reviews (SLR), meta-analyses, scoping reviews, bibliometric analyses, and theoretical/conceptual syntheses in the fields of general education and Vocational Education and Training (VET).

As a specialized review journal, RISE does not publish standard primary empirical research (such as standalone experimental studies or classroom action research without comprehensive literature synthesis). Instead, the journal focuses on methodological rigor in mapping, evaluating, and integrating existing literature to advance educational theory and practice.

The scope of the journal encompasses various review methodologies applied to education and vocational education, including but not limited to:

  1. Systematic Literature Review (SLR) in Education & VET: Studies utilizing rigorous frameworks (such as PRISMA) to evaluate pedagogical practices, curriculum design, learning models (e.g., Teaching Factory), and educational outcomes in schools, universities, and vocational institutions.

  2. Bibliometric and Scientometric Analyses: Comprehensive mapping of research trends, intellectual structures, and citation networks within educational research, vocational training, and workforce development.

  3. Meta-Analysis and Quantitative Syntheses: Statistical integration of numerical findings from multiple empirical studies to measure the effect sizes of educational interventions, learning tools, or vocational training programs.

  4. Scoping and Mapping Reviews: Broad exploratory reviews identifying research gaps, clarifying working definitions, or mapping the state of evidence on emerging topics in educational technology, policy, and pedagogy.

  5. Theoretical and Conceptual Syntheses: Critical analyses that reconstruct existing paradigms, propose new theoretical frameworks, or bridge disparate conceptual models in educational philosophy, psychology, sociology, and vocational pedagogy.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to RISE undergo an initial screening process by the Editorial Board to ensure strict adherence to review methodologies, scope, and formatting standards. Manuscripts that pass this screening will proceed to a Double-Blind Peer-Review process involving at least two expert reviewers in the relevant field. The final decision regarding publication rests with the editorial board based on the reviewers' recommendations.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge, fostering inclusivity and sustainability.
