Peer Reviewer Process
JVLE applies a double-blind peer review process: the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other. Every article is reviewed by at least two reviewers with relevant expertise.
Stages of Review
1. Initial screening (1 to 2 weeks): the editor checks the fit with the scope, compliance with the template, and similarity level. Manuscripts that fail this stage are desk-rejected or returned for correction.
2. Peer review (3 to 6 weeks): the manuscript is sent to at least two independent reviewers, who evaluate originality, significance, methodological rigour, clarity, and quality of references.
3. Editorial decision: based on the reviewers' recommendations, the editor decides: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, Resubmit for Review, or Decline.
4. Revision (maximum 4 weeks): authors revise the manuscript and submit a response letter addressing each reviewer comment point by point. Major revisions may be sent back to reviewers.
5. Final decision: the Editor in Chief makes the final decision. Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, layout, and proofreading before publication.
The average time from submission to first decision is 6 to 8 weeks. Conflicting reviewer recommendations may be resolved by inviting an additional reviewer.
